Crocodile sign in India reads 'Ramganga River is inhabited by crocodiles. Swimming is prohibited. Survivors will be prosecuted.'Sometimes a few well-chosen words can paint such a vivid picture.

When we saw this sign in India we laughed  – but there was no way we were going to go swimming in the river, even though it was pretty hot there (would you?).

Point most decidedly taken!

WHAT CAN WE DO FOR YOU?

We are freelance writers. Between us, we had more than 55 years’ experience of working for the RSPB and wildlife trusts. We can undertake freelance copywriting for interpretation panels, signs, leaflets, web copy and other materials. Some examples of our copywriting projects are shown below.

AHI member logo loSOA_Member_rgbWe are members of the Association of Heritage Interpretation, and Derek is a member of the Society of Authors. We are also RSPB-approved copywriters.

We work together on our writing projects. Our skills and ideas dovetail nicely and so do our writing styles, so customers get the best of us both! Everything one of us works on goes under the critical eye of the other before it leaves us. It’s a matter of pride that anything we send out to our customers will be to their brief, on time and in good shape.

If you think we might be able to undertake something for you, please do email us to discuss, using the contact page above.

Derek writes a column for the Guardian newspaper, called the Country Diary – it’s (almost) the world’s oldest newspaper column. It would be the very oldest, if one diarist hadn't forgotten to send in his column sometime in the 1920s! You can see Derek's Country Diary on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month, in the paper itself or online. The online version is often illustrated by one or more of Sarah's photographs.
Derek is a tutor in creative nature and family history writing. This takes place mainly at the fabulous Madingley Hall, outside Cambridge.
We are approved suppliers for the RSPB, and have written and edited many items for adults, children and families, as well as editing technical documents. We are also editors for Brandex, who prepare materials on behalf of the RSPB.   Some examples of our work: RSPB 2016 diary
We provide an editorial service to the Small Woods Association, commissioning, editing and designing their membership magazine. Sarah also provides images for use in the magazine (including this cover image) and for use by the SWA elsewhere.
Derek writes features for adults and children in WWT's members' magazine.   Here are some recent examples:
